Three New Express Passenger Machines, an Oilengined Coach and a New 7-8-tonner

Stand 72

/IANY members of the transport 1V1 industry will welcome the return to the Show of T.S. Motors, Ltd., and there will be much worthy of close investigation upon the concern's stand.

A recent introduction, the New Express, is on view as a 37-seater ser vice coach. It is equipped with a lour-cylindered petrol engine, which, with a bore and stroke of 41 ins. and • 5. ins., develops 75 b.h.p. Not only is this engine efficient in respect of power output, but also of fuel consumption. In a recent C.M. road-test, nearly 1`2 m.p.g. was obtained on a by-no-meanseasy course. Furthermore, the chassis is designed throughout with a view to accessibility and -ease of maintenance. It has a separately mounted gearbox, which, in the opinion of many, is preferable, from the workshop point of view, to the unit-constructed design. In the suspension system sound mechanical principles have obviously been followed, for the riding qualities of these machines are of a high order. The model is also shown with a Duple-built coach body equipped with sliding rear entrance. Sun-saloon head, full-drop windows, luxurious seating accommodation, and other refinements. It again appears equipped with a Park Royal 36-seater municipal-type bus body of lightweight construction.

In addition to the New Express models, there are to be seen the J5. -LA7 coach chassis, in which a Gardner five-cylindered oil engine is installed, and model D6087, with a six-cylindared T.S.M. engine , of the Ricardo type. On the latter, the 32-sealer coach body is a Duple product.

In the goods-vehicle class an entirely new, model is displayed. It is a 7-8tonner with the same high-efficiency four-cylindered petrol engine as the New Express. This is the standard power unit,, but the maker advises the use of a similar engine of bore when operators intend regularly to run the machine with full load or in difficult country. A feature, unusual, if not unique, is that the frame longitudinals are upswept to afford a low loading line. This chassis weighs 3 tons 2 cwt,—T.S. Motors, Ltd., Victoria Works, Maidstone.
