N this and the following pages we introduce to our readers the exhibits of 56 concerns in the vehicle section and 15 manufacturers in the municipal and industrial-motor sections of the Commercial Motor Show. Our report, illustrated by some 60 detail drawings made ty staff artists of The Commercial Motor from actual exhibits, is arranged in alphabetical order and, in conjunction with "The Busy Man's Guide," provides an unrivalled survey of one of the greatest Shows ever held. The salient features of all the vehicle and appliance exhibits have been extracted and presented in a form which we conceive to be the most economical of our readers' time.

On with the Show

A.E.C.

A Fine Trolleylus Chassis, the Regal Mark II Oiler and a Range of Goods and Passenger Vehicles

Stand 78

AMONGST a fine range of goods and passenger machines, two models are of special interest. The first is the new Regal Mark II chassis, which is shown with a 34-seater bus body with a rear entrance. This model embodies a new lightweight six-cylindered oil engine, the bore and stroke of which are 105 mm. and 130 aim. respectively; the maximum output is 100 b.h.p. Although robust in construction this unit weighs but 1,145 lb. with

full equipment. It incorporates the Comet-type of Ricardo combustion chamber, and the C.A.V.-Bosch fuel pump and injection system is employed.

Transmission is by means of a singleplate clutch and unit-constructed four. speed gearbox, thence by a propeller shaft equipped with Layrub universal joints, to an underslung worm-driven axle. Lockheed hydraulically operated brakes, employing a vacuum servo, are provided on all four wheels, the servo and hydraulic master cylinder being built as a unit, whilst the supply tank is mounted in the driver's cab.

An interesting point is the elimination of the usual rotary exhauster, vacuum for the brake servo being obtained from the induction pipe of the power unit, following petrol-engine practice.

The second exhibit deserving of attention is a show-finished A.E.C.E.E.C. trollevbus chassis. With a wheelbase of 18 ft. 71-5,ins, this model is of the rigid six-wheeled type and it is notable for the clean layout of all the units, also the electrical equipment. An important feature is that the weight of the chassis, complete with full regenerative equipment, etc., is under

E38 4itons and it is possible, therefore, to carry a 74-seater body, if required.

Batteries are provided for nia...nceuvring the vehicle independently of the overhead supply, and various points of interest are to be seen in connection with the pressure-operated brake gear. The popular Regent double-decker is to be seen with an M-C-W.

56-seater body, and notable features are

its full, fronted appearance and the special design and shape of the roof. The power unit is now a six-cylindered oil engine, having a bore and stroke of 105 nun. and 146 inm. respectively, and fluid transmission with four-speed epicyclic self-changing gearbox is a feature of the chassis.

A fine-looking coach with a Duple body, has as its basis the well-known A.E.C. Q-type chassis, in which the engine and transmission units are mounted beside the frame on the off side. fluid transmission and a self. changing gearbox are incorporated.

Of special interest to goods operators is the Matador Mark II 7i-tonner rhown in chassis form. This model embodi.ns many features of the Mammoth Major 8, which is also to be seen on this stand equipped with a platform body. The power unit in each case is an A E.C. Ricardo six-cylindered oil engine developing 115 b.h.p. An auxiliary gearbox is provided which, in conjunction with the main gearbox; gives five forward speeds. The final exhibit is a four-cylindered 85 b.h.p. oil engine, which is sectioned to show the general construction and the principle of the Ricardo-Comet combustion chamber.-
