During September last, the War Department divided a contract for bodies for 3-ton six-wheelers between the Charles Roberts and Morris-Commercial concerns, aed gave one for 15-cwt. lorries to Rootes, Ltd. An agreement has been concluded between New Hudson, Ltd. (the sole maker of the Girling Brake), and Ferodo, Ltd., of Chapel-en-le-Frith. by which the latter takes over the complete distribution of component Parts and faced shoes for Girling brakes in

the United Kingdom and the Irish Free State. • Full stocks will be available at all Ferodo depots, as well as through wholesale accessory dealers. The result will be that all garages and service stations called upon to service these brakes will be able to take advantage of local stocks and obtain quick delivery. In case of technical difficulty, the services of the Ferodo advisory staff will be available.

Mr. James Upholds CattlexHaulier. Mr. A. T. james, K.C., the South Wales Licensing Authority, upheld in no uncertain terms a haulage contractor's right to convey cattle for farmers

in the Mid-Glamorgan district. Mr. A. C. Beresford, of Pencoed, applied for the renewal of his licences for carrying cattle and livestock and for general haulage.

The Great Western Railway Co. opposed on the ground that the railway gave ample facilities to farmers for the transport of livestock.

Mr. James said that Glamorgan farmers had, for 20 years and more, enjoyed facilities for the road transport of their livestock to shows, etc„ by Imperial Chemical Industries,

D30 and he would not deprive them of this right. Who could be better entitled to carry out this work than the applicant, who had been in the business for about 30 years? Cattle and livestock transport was allowed without restriction as to distance, and all goods within 40 miles from Pencoed Post Office.

Empire Exhibition in South Africa.

On November 22, Mr. Kenneth Gordon, who is in charge of the Billing ham hydrogenation plant of will read an interesting paper on "The Development of Coal Hydrogenation by Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd." before the Institute of Fuel. It will be read in the lecture theatre of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, Savoy Place, Victoria Embankment, London, W.C.2, at 6 p.m., and 'Sir John Cadman, G.C.M.G., D.Sc., will occupy the chair.

Mr. Stuart-Smith Leaves United Service Transport.

We learn that Mr. J. Stuart-Smith, tor 14 years coach manager of the United Service Transport Co., Ltd., London, has severed his connection with that concern. He was for 10 years on the traffic side of Southdown Motor Services, Ltd.
