Matlock Hauliers to Organize.

With a view to the formation of a sub-area of the Commercial Motor Users Association for Matlock and district, a number of hauliers in the neighbourhood has approached Mr. H. H. Lapsley, Manchester area secretary, with a request that local meetings should he arranged. The first is to take place in a few days' time.

A.R.O. Manchester Function.

A supper, open to members of the Associated Road Operators and others interested in the haulage industry, has been arranged by the East Lancashire area to take place at the Waldorf Café, Cooper Street, Manchester, on December 9, at 7.30 p.m. Tickets, price 3s., and further details, are obtainable from Mr. B. Macclesfield Hauliers Loyal.

A tribute to the loyal support given by all sub-areas to the Commercial Motor Users Association in Manchester was paid by Mr. W. E. Macve, chairman of the North-Western Division, at a well-attended supper arranged by the Macclesfield district branch. He looked forward to Manchester being preeminent throughout the country. Mr. C. R. Lovatt, the local secretary, toasted the visitors, amongst whom, in addition to Mr. Macve, were Mr. H. H. Lapsley and Mr. S. Preece, area secretary and organizer respectively.

A Suburban Transport Broadcast.

The fifth of the "Northern Cockpit " talks to be broadcast to Northern listeners on November 16 will be entitled " Rush Hour," and will consist of statements by representative Northerners on their preferences in transport to and from the office and suburbs. The speakers will include two prominent Municipal-transport managers, a policeman, a girl cashier, a journalist and a waitress. The pros and cons of buses, trams, trains, motorcars and bicycles will come under review.
