Claims the Inventors Have Expressed in Their Specification.

The complete specification of the patent No. 109,669, granted to Thomas Andrew Barton and Thomas Henry Barton. both of Chibrell, Notts., is now available. It isr very =ex:met and carries only one illustration which we reproduce herewith. Owing to the lively interest which is being manifested in this patent a° publish the complete specification in full:—

Improvements in and Relating to Fuel Supply for Motor Vehicles.

The invention consists of a meaMs of using coal or. other gas as fuel for motor vehicles in place of petrol, which gas is carried in flexible, contractible bag, or bags, in any convenient position on the vehicles, preferably on the roof, or attached to the same. The said gas being carried to the suction pipe of engines, or carburetters air intake by a suitable pipe, and used in the same manner as an ordinary gas engine uses gas without interfering with the petrol. connections.

As the gas is used, the flexible holders which are constructed of gas proofed fabric, fold up or contract. No air is admitted with the gas thus rendering the process safe from explosive mixture of gas and air in the holders or bags.

In order that our invention may be readily understood and More easily carried out and into effect, we will describe t, fully by reference to the accompanying drawing in which:—

A represents the flexible contractible gas holder for carrying the coal or other gas for use in the motor, B is a support box for carrying the gas holder on the vehicle, 0, C are supports for the box 13, D is the supply pipe for conveying the gas from the holder A to the engine or motor G through tile inlet pipe I. E is a regulating tap for shutting 'off, or regulating the supply of gas from the gas holder to the motor, and F is a throttle valve controlled by the motor for the same purpose. H is a, hose for

filling ,the holder A with gas from the gaS main or the like. Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of our saidinvention, and in what manner the same is to be performed, we declare that what we claim is: 1. In motor vehicles the use of coal or other gas at pressures varying from atmospheric to that supplied by gas orks incombination with ens. or more

contractible flexible holders for carrying the gas and connected to the supply pipe or carburetter of the motor of the motor vehicle, all for the purposes specified and substantially as described. 2. In motor vehicles the combination therewith of one or more contractible flexible gas holders, coal or other gas as fuel contained therein, and one or more supply pipes from the flexible holders to the motor or carburetter of the afore said motor vehicle, for the. purposes named a'nd substantially as described herein.

3. The improved arrangement of fuel supply for motor vehicles constructed and arranged to operate substantially as herein described with reference to the annexed drawing, and for the paiposee specified. The patent was applied for on 29th September, 1916. The complete speri fication was left on 12th February, 1917, and accepted on 27th September, 1917. The patent No. is 13,864 of 1916: serial number 109.6e9.

We have given the specification exactly as it is phrased and punctuated. In the provisional specification reference is made to the resulting economy from the use of coal-gas, and also to the fact that the gas caul& be used for lighting.purpoaes on the, vehicles.
