Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IN WHAT must be seen as a move to capture a share of the owner-driver market, Mercedes Benz (UK) last week launched a used commercial vehicle plan. This works along with MB's new maintenance and repair contract scheme.

The plan applies to all Mercedes models — from 2.5 tonne gvw vans through to 40 tonne plated tractive units — up to four years old, on sale from Mercedes dealers.

Vans and chassis plated up to 7.5 tonne gvw, including the 1,809 and LP813 models with up to 125,000 miles (200,000km) on the clock are eligible. Heavier vehicles are covered up to 200,000 miles (320,000km).

Every vehicle sold under the scheme carries a six months, unlimited-mileage warranty against major component failure. Wear items such as clutch and brake linings, batteries, fuel lines, glass and chassis frame are excluded.

For an on-cost "premium" equivalent to less than 3 per cent of the vehicle price (minimum £150 on light vehicles, £175 for heavies over 7.5 tonne gvw) the buyer of a used Mercedes is now protected against mechanical failure costs up to £5,000 (light) and £8,000 (heavy). Any one claim can be up to £2,500 and £5,000 respectively.

In the event of a breakdown, roadside repair and recovery charges are covered, up to £300 per claim or £600 maximum per year.
