Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

FOLLOWING THE introduction of hub centering wheels for the complete UK vehicle range from August 1980, DAF Trucks is now fitting Michelin 315/80 Pilote tyres as standard on all DAF 2800 and 3300 vehicles for the United Kingdom. These chassis also feature an uprated version of the DAF N142 front axle.

The new 80 Series tyre should not, DAF says, be confused with "low profile" tyres. It is a Pilote tyre.

DAF says the overall diameter of the 315/80 Pilate is equivalent to a 12x22.5 tyre, but the carry-, ing capacity of this tyre is 7,500 Kg, which is 1,000 Kg greater than the equivalent 12x22.5 tyre.

This increased carrying capacity is suited to complement the newly rated DAF N142 front axle, which features needle roller bearings in the design, and now has a design carrying capacity of 7,000 Kg. The uprated axle is now standard fitment on 2800 and 3300 model types.

The equivalent 12x22,5 tyre may be fitted to the rims which carry this Pilote tyre as a "get you home" feature in an emergency when used in the correct tyre mix, Rolling resistance for this tyre is said to be seven to eight per cent less than the 12x22.5 and should result in a reduced fuel consumption.

The speed rating of this tyre is complementary to the maximum geared speed on the new FT 3300 DKX tractive unit, (71mph at 2,200 rpm with 4.49:1 axle ratio) whereas the 12x22.5 is riot rated for these maximum performances characteristics on the 3300 unit.

Replacement 315/80 Pilote tyres are already available on the replacement market through normal channels. Michelin Pilate is a premium specification tyre that fulfils maximum legislation conditions for both loading and operating speed stipulations.
