BY taking over Smith's Tours (Wigan) Ltd. and Webster Bros. of Wigan last week. Mr. W. Blundell, who started in business with one 29-seater coach in 1950, now Owns a fleet of 80 vehicles.
There are now eight companies in the group which continue to operate under their own names; Blundell's Coaches (Southport) Ltd.; Blundell's Coaches (Skelmersdale) Ltd.; Enterprise Tours of Southport; Pooles Tours of Banks; Lawrenson's Coaches of Bootle, Liverpool; Wrights Coaches of Bootle; Smith's Tours (Wigan) and Webster Bros.
Smith's Tours, who operate holiday tours in Britain and on the Continent, and Webster Bros., who run a daily Bolton-Llandudno (North Wales) service with intermediate stops, have 23 coaches. Chairman and managing director of the group is Mr. Blundell, and Mrs. H. Blundell is a director.
Mr. Blundell told The Commercial Motor on Wednesday that " While each operator will retain its own depot I hope eventually to concentrate major servicing at our garage in Skelmersdale New Town ". He started in the passenger carrying sphere by buying a taxi in 1947 with the aid of a £150 resettlement grant on leaving the Services.
No longer with Smith's Tours are chairman and managing director, Mr. D. L. Gleave; director, Mrs. M. Gleave and former director and general manager, Mr. A. 0. Horrocks.
