Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Haulage Association and Traders Road Transport Association to discuss their reactions to the latest vehicle weights and dimensions proposals, both bodies were due to meet Ministry of Transport officials and the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chesham, yesterday afternoon to put their views.

Both operator organizations are anxious to get new weights andsizes adopted as soon as,possible and are not likely to have pressed strong objections to the latest proposals. But the R.H.A. is known to feel that the original 63 ft. for a vehicle and trailer would have been more acceptable than the 59 ft. now

suggested, and would have liked to see the 10-ton axle limit less strictly restricted to a 12-in.-centres dimension for twin tyres. There was disappointment at the 11-ton limit for twin-oscillating axles, and at the apparently inconsistent stipulation of 10-ft. 8-in, axle spacing for fourwheelers to run at 15 tons.

The most fundamental objection was to the intention to limit the new weights to new vehicles from a date to be specified; it was felt that the date of the original proposals, in 1963, would have been a more acceptable starting point for the uprating to take effect.

The T.R.T.A. vehicles committee met on Tuesday to discuss the draft regulations.
