mR. C. V, A. WEARN. solicitor to Clifford Hughes and Co., Ltd., has drawn our attention to an inaccuracy in the heading of the report, "Fines for Forged Drivers' Records," published on page 385 of The Commercial Motor last week.

The, case concerned alleged offences under the Road Traffic Act, 1930, and regulations governing the keeping of records. Owing to a telephonic misunderstanding the word "forged" was transcribed and appeared in the heading of this news paragraph. Mr. Wearn states that it was never suggested that the drivers' logs containing the required statutory information had in any way been altered or defaced, er were designed to create a wrong impression. At no stage in the protracted proceedings was any mention made by anyone that Mr. Clifford Hughes, managing director of the defendant company, had been guilty of dishonesty or fraud. The word " forgery " was never mentioned. The Commercial Motor regrets any imputation inadvertently Made against Mr. Hughes or his company, and expresses its profound apologies.
