Incorrect Evidence: Decision Reversed.

Because certain incorrect statements were made by the applicant, the Western Licensing Authority (Mr. A. F. Nicholson), sitting at Truro, last Friday, reversed a previous decision to grant a licence.

Mr. Nicholson warned, applicants that it was a serious offence to make false statements, and that any person proved to have done so was liable to a severe penalty. He did not suggest that the present applicant made a deliberately false statement, but the information given was certainly not accurate.

Railways Must Bring New Evidence, Says Col. Redman.

Referring to the necessity of applicants making personal appearances in support of applications for licence renewals, in view of the standing objections of the railways, Col. A. S. Redman, West Midland Licensing Authority, stated, at a Worcester sitting, that new arrangements would have to be made in future years.

" I cannot go into the facts of the case each time," he said, " and the railway companies will have to bring forth concrete evidence if they wish to renew their objections. I am not going to trim down licences each year in proportion to the trade which the applicants have done during each year. Once a licence has been granted, the railway companies must bring fresh evidence if they do not wish the licences to be renewed each year."
