WINCANTON HAS WON a three-year contract to operate an energy-efficient site in Pineham. Northampton for Sainsbury's.

The depot, which is currently under construction, is designed to reduce the supermarket chain's environmental impact with the use

of solar panels, energy-efficient lighting and an on-site recycling plant. It will also have the capacity to catch up to 16 million litres of rainwater.

More than 50 stores will be serviced by the plant, which is expected to create about 900 jobs.

Roger Burnley, Sainsbury's supply chain director.says:-We've worked with Wincanton for a number of years and recognise the benefits it can offer to our business."

Wincanton MD Martin Taylor adds: "We're certain we can

provide the service levels and support needed to make the operation a success.

Wincanton currently works with Sainsbury's to handle seasonal peaks. It employs 30,000 people across Europe and has an annual turnover of £1.8bn.
