• Regulations governing vehicle registration plates are to change from 1September. New plates will have to conform to a new British standard designed to make them more durable. A mandatory character font will also be introduced, and the display of the Euro-symbol will be optional.
The changes tie in with the introduction of an area-related letter and number format (such as DE51 ABC) when the existing letter prefix series runs out at the end of August.
