Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The government-backed Energy Efficiency Best Practice Programme (EEBPP) has launched the free Fuel Management Guide. The updateable looseleaf book is targeted at smaller operators who might not have the resources available to large fleets.

Its 11 sections contain an overview of every aspect of fuel management, from driver and vehicle factors to fuel specification and storage. It opens with a simple self audit to identify the areas of potential saving, and includes a series of easyto-use checklists.

The information contained in the guide will also be available on the Internet by the end of March, at vnvw.energrefficient, gov.uk. The web site will also contain downloadable Excel spreadsheets for monitoring fuel consumption. The guide, with other energyrelated advice, can be obtained via the Environment and Energy Helpline on 0800 585794. where you can also request SiteSpecific Advice, a free consultancy service and a free fuelsaving video.

EE13PP is also behind the New Van Fuel Consumption Guide, to be launched in April. The guide will be based on extensive data from the UK's Vehicle Certification Agency and its German equivalent. CM has seen preliminary drafts, and apart from some reservations about the way laden fuel fig ures are calculated, we think it looks like a valuable aid to van buyers who have not had the information available to car fleet operators.
