Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I N 1961-62 total expenditure, by central and local government, on roads in Great Britain was L222.9 million, reported ViceAdmiral John Hughes Hallett, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, in the Commons last week. Total receipts from motor vehicle licences and fuel tax during this period were £544.8 million.

The Admiral added that the loss incurred on the railways on revenue account for the calendar year 1961 was 150-7 million.

Night Parking THERE was a feeling that the police I turned a blind eye to the parking of lorries in London residential streets because they were only too glad to get them away from the main roads, said Mr. Dudley Smith (Tory, Brentford and Chiswick) in the Commons on Wednesday. Streets were being damaged and residents' sleep being disturbed. The Ministry of Transport was well aware of the problem, replied Mr. John Hay. There was no easy or quick answer except the provision of off-street parks and the Ministry would do all it could lo ensure this.
