THE recently introduced Spenborough UPT1400 10-toncapacity tipping gear has been demonstrated to The Commercial Motor by Central Garage, Ltd., Leeds, the distributors. It was mounted on a B.M.C. 7-ton forward-control chassis of 10-ft. wheelbase and was used to tip a Spenborough 7-cu.-yd. drop-sided timber body. The gear has been developed specially to suit this chassis.

Operation of the gear is by means of a large displacement pump, which has controls located in the driver's cab. Twin underbody rams tip the body to an angle of 50 in about 30 seconds.

Interior dimensions of the body are 12 ft. by 7 ft. by 2 ft. 4 in. Unladen, the loading heights are 4 ft. 3 in. at the rear and 4 ft. at the front. • The rear hinge is situated over the rear springhanger bracket. The unladen weight of the vehicle; which is mounted on 9.00-20-in. tyres, is 3 tons 18f cwt.

The tipping gear and body, which has a steel-lined floor and double drop sides, cost £365, A spare-wheel mounting can be supplied at an additional cost of £7 10s. All-steel or lightalloy bodywork is also available as an alternative to timber.
