THE Minister of Transport is con

sidering a proposal that side guard rails should be fitted to goods vehicles, as well as to public-service vehicles. The suggestion is that goods vehicles and trailers should be compelled to fit guard rails between any wheels mole than 2 ft. apart between their nearest

points. Each rail would extend to within 9 in, of the front wheel and 6 in. of the rear wheel and to within 15 in. of the ground when the vehicle was unladen.

This requirement would apply to all goods. vehicles, including three-wheelers and trailers first registered after, some future date. For some types of vehicle the requirement might have to be modi fled. An articulated vehicle would be regarded as a unit.

The Minister is also looking for a practicable solution of the problem of guarding the space between. a vehicle

and separate trailer. '

Interested organizations have until May 15 to submit their observations.

400 MORRIS FOR ARGENTINA A N order for 400 Morris 3-top and 1-1. 5-ton lorries has been placed with the British Motor Corporation by Argentina. The value is believed to be between 1250,000 and 1300,000.

A Morris official said that . more .orders were expected in view of the Argentine's announcement that the country needs 18,00B lorries a year.

NEW VANS FOR SIMIVIS

THE Kilburn and Leeds branches of Simms Motor Units, Ltd.,-are being re-equipped with the.first of 11 Austin A50 vans, which will supersede A40 models. Signs made of reflective material are fixed to the hacks of the vans to be illuminated by the headlamps of following vehicles.
