Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AT present there are two main typt • of semi-trailer couplings in use, th roller-and-rail type • and the variet employing a king-pin. It iS not usual' possible to unite two vehicles havin these differences, but patent No. 887,10 discloses a means whereby it can be doni (Fox Trailers, Ltd., and Rippon Brother all of Victory Works, Woodend, Live' pool, 24.)

The drawing shows in outline how th alternative couplings are arranged. I full lines is shown a king-pin coupling (1 in the operative position. The roller-am rail coupling is shown " stowed " in dotte lines at Either can be brought into position b swinging a sub-frame about a pair c trunnions (3) on the main frame. Th sl;vinging movement is hydraulicall powered and operated remotely from th cab. Instead of swinging about a hor zontal axis, the changeover may be mile by a sliding movement.
