Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AAN inquiry into allegations that a witness supporting a successful applicant had given false evidence was adjourned by the West Midland Licensing Authority last week. Mr. W. Bullock, Headley Heath, Birmingham, had been granted a variation of his B licence in December, 1955. A Mr. Moore was a supporting witness. Falsities in his evidence were alleged by Mr. E. Warner in a letter sent to the Authority after the grant.

Mr. Warner said last week that he attended Andovcrsford market regularly and had seen Mr. Moore there about three times in 1955. Mr. Moore, said Mr. Warner. was "quite wrong"

in histevidence that he had been kept waiting at the market until 6 p.m. because local hauliers did local work first.

The Authority wished to hear Mr. Moore's reply to Mr. Warner's assertions 25-MILE GRANT WRONG

HlWAVING been presented with evidence of unsatisfied demand for transport within a 60-mile radius, it was wrong for the Scottish Deputy Licensing Authority to grant a licence restricted to 25 miles, This was stated by Mr, Hubert Hull, president of the Transport Tribunal, in Edinburgh last week, when the British Transport Commission successfully appealed against the Authority's grant of a B licence to Muir's Transport, Ltd., Cupar, Fife, restricted to 25 miles.

The company had applied to operate within 60 miles and the evidence was directed to show need for haulage facilities up to such a limit. The Authority drew the conclusion that it was proper to allow a licence for local traffic up to 25 miles.

It was not possible, thought the Tribunal, for sufficient indication to be extracted from the evidence to show an unsatisfied local demand.

Mr. Hull criticised the figures submitted to the Authority as being unclear.
