Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IT'S NOT JUST HG V drivers who work long hours, according to a new survey; their bosses also burn the midnight oil.

The Chartered Management Institute and recruitment company Adecco say managers in the transport industry are overworked and undervalued.

Their Business Energy Survey reveals that one in three managers work 14 hours a week more than they're paid for effectively a seven-day week.

More than 50% feel that they are overloaded with work; 34% admit to having no energy on weekday evenings because of work; and 29% rely on the weekend to recover.

Some 66% of managers in the sector are happy to work extra hours provided they feel a "sense of purpose" in their work and are helped to achieve their goals. But most feel there is a negative management style in their company; more than 30% of respondents believe their employer has an authoritarian culture, with 25% feeling exploited.

Richard Macmillan. MD of Adecco UK and Ireland says it's clear that employees are not afraid to work at this level provided their ideas are heard and they feel valued: "It's no wonder many organisations have trouble finding and keeping the right people. The atmosphere they are creating inside their businesses is not the positive, proactive culture where most would aspire to build their careers."
