r Pusey (Dear Sir, –V1 CM1016 June) is mistaken: not all piggyback forklifts have to rely on counterbalancing their load. Kooi-aap first demonstrated to British hauliers how this weight penalty could be avoided 17 years ago. The centre of gravity of the load is within the wheelbase—Kooi-aap forklifts are normally lighter than the loads they can handle.
Take three current models: the Z114 weighs 990kg and lifts 1,200kg; the bigger Z 2-3-1 weighs 1,490kg and lifts 1,500kg; the pedestrianoperated STE can reduce its width down to 900mm yet still lifts 1,500kg with a weight of 1,300kg.
For rough terrain ability there is the Kooi ZRT. With three-wheel drive and diffleeks it weighs in at 1,700kg, lifting capacity is 2,000kg. Jim Wilkie Technical advisor, Kooi-aap, Chipping Sodbury, Bristol.
