FOR the first time in the four-axle rigid vehicle market, Volvo lorries achieved market leadership during May.
The 36 Volvo F86 8x4 units, manufactured at Ailsa's Irvine plant and sold that• month achieved a 20 per cent share of the eight-wheeler market.
Substantial increases in sales of lorries over 28 tons were also made in May. Sales of artic units totalled 235, over 23 per cent of the market and more than 100 units above any other single make.
January May sales account for 18 per cent of the heavy sector — about 2.5 per cent ahead of the nearest competitive make.
