I NSULATED versions of their Van

guard range of frameless semi-trailer vans are now being produced by Crane Fruehauf Trailers Ltd.. and two basic forms are offered: Model A, with complete insulation of side walls, floor, roof, front and rear: Model E, with insulation of walls and roof only.

.1-he model A is intended

primarily for hauling prOd nee at temperatures down to 35°F. Insulation is by 3 in. of Fibreglass in side walls, roof, floor and front wall. As a lining material +-in. fir plywood is 'used, with 1-in, wood spacer spools and +-in, back-up strips, the latter running vertically in the sidewalk and crosswise in the roof to provide a solid base for attaching the lining. Double cove mouldings ensure a tight seal between roof and side wall linings.

Main fluor Hardwood The standard floor is If in. tongued and grooved hardwood. There are no drains. Hardwood floor spacers separate the flooring from the erossmembers. There is no through metal contact. Extruded aluminium floor flashings connect and seal the outer edges of the floor to the bottom edges of the side wall plywood lining. A galvanized steel sub pan protects the bottom surface of the insulation of the floor.

The rear doors are standard +. in, plymetal with 2+ in. of Fibreglass insulation on the inside faced with plywood and sealed in the door bevel with a compressible vinyl plastic inner seal with fused corners.

Model E has 1 in. of Fibreglass insulation in the side walls, front wall and roof (compressed to 174a in.). This insulation is installed between the side wall panels or one-piece aluminium roof and the lining. The lining is attached directly 10 the inside flanges of the posts and roof bows. The lining is Jill. exterior-grade r plywood.

Also planned by Crane Fruehauf Trailers for early introduction are fully refrigerated versions of the Vanguard vans. These will have 4 in. and 6 in, insulation, using a polyurethane foamedin-place material, and will be for carrying frozen goods at below-zero temperatures.

They will be offered with Thermo-King front-mounted, or underslung, refrigerating units, or to operate with other methods, including dry-ice and liquid nitrogen:
