Lucas Lamps.
The various kinds of lighting outfits marketed by Joseph Lucas, Ltd., Great King Street, Birmingham, are extensively used in the industry, and the long ex perienee of this concern places it in a satisfactory position to supply the wants of every class of user. The latest development is the " King of the Road " projeecur set, vvenen has been manufactured as particularly suitable for motor-lorry and heavy-vehicle work, and the ieliability and economical service which it renders have brought the equipment into high favour. The projector is fitted with a Mangin lens, and the body constructed of brass of heavy gauge, the hinge and catch being of a special type, made particularly strong to withstand vibration. For working vehicles in long stretches of open country this installation is to be recommended.
The generator gives off a remarkably steady supply of gas and is accommodated with a patented condenser, conveniently fitted in the base of the equipment.
The outfit can be supplied in all-brass or finished in black enamel. A dynamo lighting system is also manufactured ; this is meeting with mue,h approval by users. Warning devices of all descriptions, wrenches, forcefeed oiling cans, spring-lid lubricators, lifting jacks, and many other useful accessories are also produced by the. Lucas concern.
Hallite Jointing.'
lIallite packing, manufactured by Hall and Hall, Ltd., 47, Leadenhall Street, London, E.G., is now generally adopted by the automobile manufacturer, as well as the steam engineer. The fabric will stand the most severe tests of both heat and steam pressure ; moreover it affords an absolutely gas, steam and air tight joint, consequently there is little chance of wasteful loss of the driving medium. Halite can be supplied either in sheets or in any special required size or shape, to suit any class of flange.
The company also markets rotary pump packing, which is specially suited for use in centrifugal pump glands. This can be obtained in three diameters in.,,A in., and in. respectively.
Electric Hand Lamps.
Inspection hand lamps are, of course, quite a necessity in engineering establishments and garages. Considering the comparatively rough usage to which these accessories are sometimes put, the production of a suitable form of durable filament which will withstand hard service is a feature of considerable importance in their manufacture.
Simplex Conduits, Ltd., 113-117, Charing Cross Road, London, is a company which has gone into this matter very considerably, and markets several highly-satisfactory types of hand lamps, three examples of which are illustrated herewith. The lamps are well made and finished in brass. The bulbs are sufficiently guarded, so that there is little risk of the glass being broken through the accessory being left lying about the benches. The handles are cast solid, and a suspension hook is provided at the top. On one type, the frame is fitted with legs for standing the lamp upright, so that it can readily be hung in any convenient position, or left standing as the ease may be. The price of the lamp shown on the left of the illustration is 4s. 6d., and this includes three yards of flexible cord. The example in the centre is listed at 8s. 6d., and is also provided with three yards of cord, whilst the one depicted on the right-hand of the picture costs 9s. 6d. Lamps can also be supplied to take four, six or eight-volt circuits from. car batteries.
