Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A Gloucestershire county councillor has unveiled plans to stop all the county's lanes and sideroads being used as rat-runs.

Barry Dare, Conservative councillor for Moreton-In Marsh, Glos, is calling for weight restrictions to outlaw trucks on all minor roads in the area.

Only delivery vehicles or essential services would be exempt.

Dare revealed the plan at a public meeting In Longborough, near Moreton, where residents expressed concerns that HGV traffic is set to worsen when a new advisory route comes into force.

The new route will see trucks diverted from Evesham via the A44 onto the A424 which cuts through Longborough.

Dare says: "I want a total strategy for Gloucestershire. I would like to see just main through routes open to HGVs and all sideroads closed."

"The difficulty would be enforcing it. The police won't be toe happy having more work to do but if we get one lorry fewer through villages such as Longborough, Broadwell and Condlcate, it will be worth doing."

Cotswold area traffic manager Derek Howell says: "As a concept it's fine. But we have to clear the expenditure. I would hope to take it forward."
