• A Welsh tanker operator is threatening to sue a Spanish vehicle manufacturer after a bulk tanker he bought developed major design faults with just 15,000 kilometres on the clock.

Cardiff-based BRT International has started legal proceedings in an attempt to recover nearly £5,000 from Spanish firm Ros Roca to pay for repairs to the .C42,000 tanker.

However, despite promises to

fully reimburse the company for the problems, Ros-Roca has so far offered only half the amount.

BRT says problems started as soon as it took delivery of the tanker in January 1995—the vehicle did not have the correct documentation.

The tanker was bought to carry hazardous goods to Europe, but although Ros Roca was informed of this, the con-ect certificates took six months to arrive. The vehicle then developed faults in the brake valves and lift axle that took over a

month and thousands of pounds to fix.

As a consequence, the tanker had done just 15,000km in six months while others in the 80vehicle fleet had covered 50,000km.

BRT director Anthony Rosser says: The whole episode has been extremely frustrating arid left a bad taste in my mouth. It was a very unprofessional job and 111 never buy abroad again."

Ros Roca was unavailable for comment.
