The Peyton Detachable-wheel Holder.

For purposes of tire manipulation the motor wheel is an incredibly difficult piece of mechanism to hold. It is -obviously impossible to place it in a vice, and a bracket with a bolt and washer of convenient size for gripping the hub arc not often available. The Peyton detachable-wheel holder offers an efficient and simple method of holding any type of wheel for this purpose. It consists of a, wooden base with a protruding bolt long enough to accommodate the hub. The wheel is placed in position on the base. A large conical collar, also of wood, is slipped over the bolt, and finds a resting place in the hub. A nut and wing locknut behind this collar grip the hub securely in position, and leave the operator with both hands free to manipulate the tire. The price of this fitting varies in accordance with the size of the hub. Brown Bros., Ltd., of Gt. Eastern Street, E.C., have the agency for this useful fitting.

2 A Cold Vulcanizing Outfit. In the Instanter vulcanizer we have a handy outfit for the repair of tires by a cold vulcanizing process. In use, all that is necessary is first of all to trim the punctured place ready for repairing, and then dress with •a special vulcanizing flux. Meantime, two pieces of

• plastic rubber, one larger than the other, and both larger than the hole which is to be repaired, are placed in a china. dish (which is provided as part of the outfit), covered with the vulcanizing fluid and there left for ten seconds. When dry and still tacky, the pieces are put one above the other over the hole ; the tube is then put into the small press provided, and the patches held in position. The whole process occupies only a few minutes. A damaged cover is also repairable by similar means.

A car-size set, which comprises a very complete equipment of everything necessary for a large number of repairs, costs gl 10s. plus the inevitable 10 per cent, war advance. Refills are supplied at reasonable prices. The sole agent is Morris, Russell and Co.. Ltd., '75, Curtain Road, London, E.O. Searle Tubes : New Selling Agent.

The Searle unburstable tube was described in these pages on the 9th November last. Its particular usefulness, it may be recalled, is.in connection with worn covers, which, if used in conjunction with ordinary pneumatics, would sooner or later, probably sooner, result in the trader's van being held up owing to a bad burst.

The tube in question is of special construction, embodying an inwardly projecting rib of rubber and canvas which serves to stiffen the tube throughout. It has proved itself to be very successful, and has emerged with flying colours from severe tests.

It is important to note that the sole, selling rights for the United Kingdom and Ireland and certain foreign countries have recently been secured by the County Chemical Co., Ltd., Chernico Works, Bradford Street, Birmingham. This company is well-known throughout the industry in connection with its specialities for the upkeep and repair of rubber tires ; the selling Tights of such a component as the Searle unburstable tube could not, we are sure, be in better hands.

For Cold Garage.

The Drake and Gorham engine heater is such a simple and ingenious device that one wonders why every garage has not sufficient of these on hand to enable every bonnet to be kept warm throughout the winter.

It consiAs merely of a specially

designed resistance coil within a perforated container. With it is supplied a length of insulated wire and an ordinary coupling suitable for making a connection with any ordinary, incandescent lamp holder. Hung within the bonnet, it serves as an effectual safeguard against the effects of frost, and relieves owner, driver and mechanic from any further anxiety on that score. Such a relief, at the cost of 25s. per fitting, is cheaply obtained. Apart from this, there is the undoubted advantage, more apparent in some chassis than in others, that the use of this device enables an easy start to be made on mornings suceteding cold nights. The device is available to suit any voltage between 50 and 260, and consumes 100 watts per hour. The maker is Drake and Gorham, Ltd., of 66, Victoria Street, S.W.
