• If asked to re-deliver at a delivery address, always check with the traffic office and do not budge until it is confirmed, however plausible the reason, • Always park overnight at approved, secure locations. Do not park loaded trucks outside delivery addresses or on industrial estates.

• Always drive with the doors locked to avoid attempts by thieves to enter your vehicle when you are stationary.

• Beware of bogus distractions. Some may be genuine but there are many reports of drivers being stopped by thieves posing as drivers who have suffered punctures or accidents. Once stopped, the vehicle and load are at obviously heightened risk.

• If you have a 'vulnerable load' sign, use it as appropriate.

• No careless talk. Your load is valuable keep delivery details to yourself and deliver it safely.

• If offenders are disturbed while stealing from the load, do not leave the cab. Ensure the doors are locked, start the engine, switch on the lights and if necessary sound the vehicle's horn to attract attention.

• Always ensure the seals on your loads are in place and haven't been tampered with before you start your journey. If you have a container load, ensure a container clamp is fitted to deter theft when the vehicle is stationary.

• Always be alert. Most thieves are opportunists — don't give them a chance or they'll take it.
