Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

II The trial of livestock hauliers Ken Lane Transport and Europan, four drivers and a cattle dealing firm, alleged to have unnecessary suffering to calves, has been halted after two days.

Magistrates adjourned the case until January when a further two days have been set aside for its completion, after the defence said it wanted to call an expert witness.

Ken Lane Transport and Europan, both of Retford, and Albert Hall Farms, of Strensall, York, are also accused of failing to ensure that the calves had water, food and rest at intervals of no longer than 15 hours and failing to draw up a journey plan when transporting the calves.

Albert Hall Farms is also accused of failing to ensure that a copy of the journey plan was kept for six months. The drivers, Peter Raynor and Christopher Hagen, both of Retford; Michael Garrett of Doncaster and George Buttle of Rotherham are each accused of transporting the calves in such a way as likely to cause unnecessary suffering and failing to ensure they were provided with water, food and rest at suitable intervals.

The charges carry a maximum fine of £5,000 per offence.
