identical FM12 380 tractors coupled to Don-Bur box trailers with full aerodynamic kit. The only difference was that one had a manual transmission, while the other had Volvo's new I-Shift automated box. The I-Shift truck was driven normally over the high-speed test section. while the manual was first driven smoothly and then harshly, to simulate the effects of good and bad driving techniques. The result was that the carefully driven manual beat the I-Shift by a "negligible" margin, while the poorly driven manual was, not surprisingly, well beaten by both.
