FREE interchange between different makes of demountable equipment has been made possible with the introduction of a straight-lift system from Ray Smith Demountables.

The system allows interchange. between systems made by Abel, Dobson, Freight Bonallack and Freightaids. The existing Ray Smith guide rail system can already be made to interchange with other European systems such as Ackermann, de Jong, Deckers, Pengco and Ronway.

The body on the Ray Smith straight-lift system is centred over the chassis when it is being lowered so that the body's legs are relieved of all the usual side strain from body shuffle.

Right Final alignment of the body is done as the body descends on to the chassis. Tapered pyramids or cones provide the final positioning before the twistlocks fasten down the body.

Left : One of the two lifting bridges of the Ray Smith straight-lift demountable system. The hydraulic rams straddle the chassis, connected by a bridge which lifts a body under its runners. This particular installation has a single fixed ball between the crossmembers of the lifting bridge. This ball registers with a locating cone beneath the body. Alternative location arrangements to interchange with other makes of body are offered.

The bodies are lifted under the longitudinal runners by a lifting bridge with two hyd raulic rams underneath, bridges, one at the front one at the rear, can be si fled to either work one time or both together, dep ing on how the demour procedure needs matching some other system of sin principle already in servic
