Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

INSTANCES of the clogging effect I which the adoption of the five-day week in industry has had on goods transport at Sheffield, through week-end restriction of collection and delivery, are given in a non-political survey issued by the transport and road transport executive committees of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce.

The survey, the result of three months' study of the subject, says that the transport dislocation is especially grave to Sheffield, because its industries give rise to the heaviest concentration' of rail transport in the country. It is suggested that unless measures are taken, the onset of winter might well throw goods distribution into complete chaos.

It was found that, after Thursday night, loads for London could not be dispatched until Sunday night. Loads collected on Friday stood in the vehicles until Monday. Forty per cent. of Sheffield haulage contractors' vehicles „were standing idle on Saturday mornings.

To remedy the situation, the report suggests that local arrangemenis to enable goods to be received and dispatched on Saturdays would give temporary relief. It is felt that the Government would best be able to explain how the five-day week must be cut across in respect of employees in certain groups.

beroid felt is placed over them, and the outer covering is of proofed canvas. This form of covering gives good insulation for the special class of goods carried (soap and margarine), and provides added strength to the general body construction, already extremely robust. Side panels, below the waist line, are in Masonite.

A false floor is arranged down the centre of the main compartment to house a conveyer, used in unloading goods. This complete design represents something of a masterpiece in weight reduction, combined with strength, as the body weighs only 1 ton 11 cwt
