LEEDS-BASED parcel carrier Hermes has been granted permission to run 18 vehicles and four trailers at a new depot on the North Muirton industrial estate, Perth.

In February, the company announced it had won an eightyear home delivery contract with fashion retailer Next. Under the terms of the deal. Hermes collects goods from Next's distribution centres, and Lakes them to regional depots. From there, orders are sent through its 7500-strong courier network. Last November, the business also won a five-year, multimillion-pound contract with TV home shopping company, sit-up channels.

Last November, the firm was given planning permission by North Lanarkshire Council to develop the regional distribution centre in ProLogis Park.

Construction of the 504.000ft= composite multitemperature facility — which is close to Junction 6 of the M8 — has begun and operations are expected to be fully under way in late 2011.

The site features a 426.000ft' warehouse, threestorey offices totalling 30,800ff. hub offices of 10.00011' and has 300 HGV trailer spaces.

CEMEX UK, trading as Cemex UK Materials, wants to run five vehicles and two trailers at the Melton Coating Plant on the Humber Industrial Estate in North Ferriby.

Walon CAR TRANSPORT specialist Walon is looking for permission to run eight vehicles and eight trailers at the Nissan compound at the port of Tyne in South Shields.The company — part of the Autologic Group — carries out work for many of the leading car manufacturers.
