Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Hauliers who are delaying truck purchases until Leyland Daf's future is secured are being blamed for a 10.7% year-on-year fall in truck and artic registrations last month.

According to the SMMT, yearon-year truck and artic registrations fell for the first time in nine months, from 3,239 in March 1992 to 2,893 last month. Leyland Daf contributed to this shortfall of 346 units by registering 333 fewer trucks. Registrations for the year to date fell from 7,899 in 1992 to 7,821.

Total commercial vehicle sales, at 17,741, were down 11.8% compared with March last year, when 20,103 units were registered. Sales for the year to date were 50,244; 5.4% behind the 53,087 registrations recorded in JanuaryMarch 1992.

Despite these disappointing figures some sectors are doing well. Renault has reported renewed interest in waste vehicles and eight-wheel tippers. The manufacturer has won an order for 15 of its new eightleggers from Strathaven-based haulier Yuill and Dodds.
