• A driver who did not give enough food and water to livestock on his vehicle has been fined a total of 000 with £280 costs by Birmingham magistrates after pleading guilty to this and three other related offences.

Peter Alan Younger of %Wet, Northumberland, 28, was driving a vehicle operated by haulier Redpath Brothers of Northumberland. The company was not implicated.

He also pleaded guilty to putting a horned cow in the same pen as cattle without horns, for which he was fined £100. He also pleaded guilty of two offences for failing to enter times of the loading and unloading of pigs and cattle carried for which he was fined £50 on each count.

The offences came to light in April 1992 following an animal livestock vehicle check at Perry Barr involving Birmingham City Ummcil and West Midlands police.

Younger is no longer employed by Redpath Brothers.
