This observation concerning export prospects was made last week by Sir Rowland Smith, chairman of the Ford Motor Co.. Ltd., in his annual report.

He warned that progress would not be easy. It was clear that in Europe there was intense competition in which only the most acceptable products. coupled with the most efficient low-cost manufacture, would survive.

During 1954, about half the Ford output was exported. The new 5-cwt. van met with "astonishing success,and acceptance of the four-cylindered oil-engined vehicle was immediate.
