RELATIONS between the Fatstock Marketing Corporation and the Road Haulage Association had not deteriorated, Mr. G. R. Colvin, chief transport officer of the F.M.C., said on Tuesday.

In a letter to Mr. R. Morton Mitchell, chief executive officer of the R.H.A., he stated the policy "which the cofporation has pursued and will continue to pursue" in relation to the Association. This was: (1) To consult and co-operate with the R.H.A. on all matters of general interest to livestock and meat hauliers, provided that (2) The corporation have complete and unfettered discretion as to which hauliers they shall employ, and (3) The corporation agree rates individually with the hauliers employed, and not on the basis of national or regional scales agreed with their representatives, which might therefore be considered to be applicable to hauliers at large without regard to their individual circumstances in the event of their being employed by the corporation. The latter point does not preclude conferences between corporation officers and all or some of the hauliers working for the corporation in a district if, in fact, it is more convenient to deal with several hauliers together, and the hauliers have no objection to acting in concert.

Mr. Colvin will meet the R.H.A. national livestock functional group committee on May 12.
