Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

MULTI-FUNCTIONAL additives for IVIthe treatment of fuels and lubricating oils used in all types of internalcombustion engine are being marketed under the trade name of Selocol by A. Sells and Co., 24, Queens Mews, London, W.2.

The principal ingredient in the Selocol petrol additive is a content of colloidal graphite, as recommended by

Acheson Colloids, Ltd. For uppercylinder lubrication the colloidal u8

graphite withstands the high temperatures of the combustion zone and the washing effect of the unburned fuel, thus reducing wear by friction and corrosion, particularly under cold starting conditions.

The multi-functional additive provides detergency and maintains clean cylinder walls, pistons and valves, and soon forms a wear-resisting protective graphoid surface.

Containing the recommended proportion of colloidal graphite, the oil additive is also blended with a multifunctional additive. This protects the engine from seizure, or undue wear. Recognized as a safe running-in compound, the oil additive requires to be used regularly to gain the full benefits of detergency and reduction of wear. This compound is also claimed to be beneficial for use in the gearbox and rear axle.

Oil Additive

The oil additive, for compressionignition engines, is exclusively for the various types of fuel used in oil engines, and is not graphited. This product is a specially concentrated multi-functional additive compounded to give immediate dispersal in oil fuel.

The object is to provide advantages in three stages. If added to the fuel as pumped into storage tanks, it is claimed that the additive will inhibit the formation of sludge and gum deposits. This prevents choking of the pipe line and filters.

When passing through the fuel-injection pump, it will lubricate the plungers and protect the parts from corrosion. The active ingredients in the additive resist combustion, thus improving topcylinder lubrication. It is also claimed that the oil-fuel additive prevents oxidation of the lubricating oil, and by its detergency maintains free action to the upper-cylinder components.
