Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

by offering an irresistible line-up of vehicles. Light CV sales director Alex Wright explains.

The key phrase this month is 'the right stock '.Tatty, high-mileage vehicles are not selling and catalogues filled with unappealing vans will not entice buyers to travel to the auction halls, let alone put their hands into their pockets. The only exceptions to this rule are tippers; being rarely seen in the halls, they are generally snapped up regardless of age, mileage and condition.

With so many new models launched in 2006, the end of the year could bring the most congested used marketplace seen for a long time. But in the meantime, car-derived vans are in short supply.

Escorts and Astras are popular buys; lowmileage examples are rare.so if higher mileage does not cause a problem for buyers some good deals are available, More Vauxhall Combos with side loading doors are becoming available, making this the best performer in its class, While the side loading door doesn't actually add value, it does attract extra interest —as does the I .3CDTi engine.

The 4x4 sector is doing well, and as a rule of thumb the better the spec — leather/ alloys/air-con/metallic paint — the more interest is shown. A Ford Ranger 4x4 XLT Thunder Double Cab with 50,000 miles on the clock recently sold for £8,350 thanks to an abundance of chrome and leather,

Panel vans

Condition, mileage and specification are all having an impact on the small-panel-van sector. With many Vauxhall Vivaros and Renault Trafics available to choose from, buyers are inspecting them meticulously prior to bidding. Many of these vehicles seem to have had their roofs used as substitutes for ladders and scaffolding, so damage to the roof area can be significant.

The Mercedes-Benz Vito and Volkswagen Transporter remain stars of the show, with oldshapeTransporters still very much in demand. At Gloucester, an 02102 Transporter 25TDi SWB with 12,000 miles on the clock recently fetched £5,575.

Large panel vans with low mileages are being snapped up first time, but buyers prepared to cherry-pick high-mileage examples in good condition can find bargains.

Overall, the light CV sector is doing well. There are bargains to be found as well as some impressive vehicles coming into the halls with vendors realising that condition is allimportant for a first-time sale. •
