NISSAN HAS developed a revamped van and light truck range, including a new shape for its popular Cabstar model (pictured).

The Cabstar has stayed true to its predecessor by sticking with a forward-control arrangement, but it has been developed on a new platform designed to provide what Nissan claims is best-in-class payload combined with compactness. manoeuvrability and the longest loadbed in its class.

Internal cabin size has also been increased, while the exterior has had a much-needed facelift.

All three engine variants are now Euro-4 compliant, ready for the October deadline, Options are a 2,500cc common rail turbo-diesel rated at 108.5hp/ 250Nni or 128.2hp/270Nm and a 3,000cc common-rail turbo-diesel rated at 147.9hp/350Nm.

Liningup next to the Cabstar will be the company's environmentally friendly Hybrid Concept.

Developed in conjunction with ZF, the inline four-cylinder 3,000cc ZD30 engine is coupled to a powerful electric motor in a parallel configuration. It is predicted that the Cabstar Hybrid will cut fuel bills by up to 30%.

Alongside the Cabstar, the Atleon has been enhanced with a new look, new equipment and a range of Euro-4 engines.

GVWs range from 3.5 to 15 tonnes. The lighter range will be powered by an adapted ZD30 from the Cabstar, while the heavier models will use Cummins' ISBe four and six-pot common-rail turbo-diesels.

Nissan's joint projects with Renault andVauxhall, the Primastar and lnterstar, have also been updated with a Euro-4 compliant engine range and various driver features.

The Primastar's engine range has been revamped with one petrol and three diesel engines. The 2,000cc dCi turbo-diesel develops a choice of 89 and 113hp, while a 2,500cc dCi unit puts out 148hp with 320Nrn of torque at 1,500rpm.

These engines will be mated to a new six-speed gearbox available in manual or semi-automatic guise.

The final new engine in the range is the 2,0()Occ 16-valve petrol unit found in many Renault passenger cars, producing 118hp with 190Nm of torque.

Twinned with Renault's Master, the Nissan Interstar will be running three versions of the 2,500cc dCi unit. Power outputs will range from 99 to 148hp, while maximum torque will range from 260 to 320Nm.

All of Nissan's new arrivals will be unveiled at the Hanover International Motor Show on 20 September.
