Fifteen intrepid drivers, inspectors and engineers from Northern's Wallsend bus depot made a 29km journey along the Tyne on home-made rafts to raise more than £5,000 for the children's intensive care unit at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary.
Their mode of transport may have been different, but some things never change — the rafts' departure was rescheduled and they left more than an hour late. . .
