Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The lack of good-quality stock over five years old is becoming increasingly evident at auction centres throughout the country, says John Coates, senior editor/director of CAP Book publications, in his latest report on the auction scene.

"Many vehicles in both heavy and light commercial auctions appear to be left behind for weeks and could be described as nothing but scrapyard material," he says.

Coates says many of the vehicles are badly patched up and poorly repainted, and buyers are suspicious as a result They would rather see vehicles in original condition.

According to Coates there is an abundance of Ford Transits on the market, with the exception of 190 diesel models.

"New Ford Transits are in good supply due to the amount of rental business done by leasing companies in the past three years," he says.

Coates says the influx of Europcar ex-rental Renault Trafics and Masters, which had been sold at bargain prices, has had a negative effect on their residual values.

"But the feeling is that once this influx has subsidised, residuals on Renault's larger commercials will once again stabilise."
