Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Two new American-spec engines made their European debut at IAA. The Cummins ISX15 and Paccar MX meet the latest American EPA2010 standard, thanks to the use of both EGR and SCR. Their significance on this side of the Atlantic is that they should form the foundations for their makers. Euro-6-compliant products.

Eaton, meanwhile, was explaining a new exhaust after-treatment system that employs SCR technology without the need for the addition of AdBlue, the urea-based liquid used by truck makers to clean exhaust emissions. The Eaton system is in use in several off-highway applications, but the company was generating plenty of interest from truck makers at the show keen to investigate the on-highway applications, particularly on light and medium-duty trucks.

At an ACEA press conference on the opening day, the major manufacturers accepted the opportunity had passed to change Euro-6 requirements, but reinforced their call for future standards to be based on whole vehicle CO2 emissions per tonne/km. The organisation is developing an evaluation tool for operators to accurately calculate CO2 emissions of vehicles in a wide variety of specifications and applications.
