Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Is a tower wagon exempt from MoT and tax?

We're thinking of buying a 75-tonne truck with a cherry picker from the local council We're going to use it to help maintain some of our high plant and equipment at various sites. We've been told its a tower wagon, and it doesn't require an ,41oT or the payment of taxation. Is this correct?

No. It may have been used by the council as a tower wagon because the VERA1994 regulations allow local authorities an exemption on excise duty. The plating and testing regulations also refer to this exemption. But the exemption no longer applies once the council sells the lorry. You'll have to treat it as one of your normal fleet of vehicles
