Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

From A. J. P. WILDING, Paris

VRENCH manufacturers have made the -11; most important introductions in the commercial vehicle section of the Paris Show which opened yesterday.

Berliet has what is probably the most interesting exhibit for French visitors. This is a double-decker bus for RATP, the Paris passenger transport board. No doubledeckers are operated in Paris at present but 25 of the new Berliet models have been ordered. Total carrying capacity is 94 passengers, 54 seated (38 upstairs) and 40 standing. The design of the lower deck follows the current French standard for passenger vehicles with a wide entrance at the rear and two exits on the same side and a seated conductor. There are two staircases to the upper deck.

Another introduction by Berliet is a version of the Stradair which has front-wheel drive so that a very low floor height can be obtained. The frame is cranked behind the cab and two rear axles with twin 600 x 9 wheels are fitted. This allows a platform height of only 62 cm. (24.4 in.). Another change between this model, which is called the Tekel, and the standard Stradair is that leaf-spring suspension is used at the front instead of air. Most of the models on the Unic stand have something new about them but the most important are the latest versions of the Izoard which is fitted with uprated versions of the V8 diesel introduced by the company at the 1964 Paris Show. Output has been increased to 270 b.h.p. gross and forward-control models have a tilt cab.

• Saviem have interesting goods chassis • including the Super-Galion which is designed for 3.5 tons gross and has certain similarities with the Super Goelette 1.6tanner introduced just over a year ago. Like the Super Goelette, the Super Galion has independent front suspension through coil springs and wishbones but instead of coil springs at the rear it has leaf springs. And instead of a four-cylinder petrol engine the power unit is a four-cylinder diesel and braking is by a vacuum-hydraulic system as against straight hydraulic on the Super Goelette.

British manufacturers are well represented in Paris but with the London Commercial Show only just finished there is nothing that has not already been written about. That is if the Dodge K160 which appears at Paris is excluded. This is a new model for Dodge but, in fact, is a Commer 2500 1-ton van with Dodge nameplate.
