The parade of commercial motors, organized by the C.M.U.A.. which will take place, on the Embankment, on the 30th inst., will receive the sup-. port of several of the London omnibus companies. which companies are each sending teams of two vehicles to represent their respective fleets of inotorinises in the parade. The motorbus committee of the Eastbourne Town Council has approved drawings, by the general manager, of a mechanical improvement by which he states that the distinctive noise of the de Mon omnibuses may be reduced to a minimum. A new gearbox has been fitted, and is now being thoroughly tested.

Limited facilities for the examination of the possibilities of the trolleywire electrobus are now available in England. Seine account of the first of the new vehicles will be found on page 104.

Kingswood, Warmley, Staple Hill and Fishponds districts, in the vicinity of Bristol. have now been connected by a motor char-à-bancs service. These neighbourhoods were, hitherto, badly served in the matter of passenger transportation.

Motorbus "Sea s Ons."

In addition to the decision to allot free season tickets on their motorbuses to every bolder of 200 shares, the directors of the Great Eastern London Motor Omnibus Co. have decided to offer to every shareholder a discount of five per cent. off the cost price of a season ticket, for every ten Ll shares held by him in the company.

The Whipping Boy.

Reports, in " The Evening News," on the unemployment question, from the Fulham and Poplar districts, state that the increasing development of commercial-motor vehicles is throwing men out of employment. We wonder whether the same tale would he told of Brixton, Kennington, Walham Green, Mortlake and many other such districts.

For the Fishermen.

A restricted service of motorbuses is to be maintained during the winter, by the G.E. Railway Co., between Lowestoft and Kessingland, until Christmas, at least. It was originally announced that the service would be suspended during the winter, but the new arrangements have been made in order to accommodate the fishermen who will shortly be home from the fishing grounds.

East Ham's Complaint.

In the report upon the year's working of the East Ham Corporation tramways, the tramways are stated to have made a loss of £750; the takings for the year being :C5,000 less than those of the previous corresponding period. The reduction is attributed entirely to the competition of the motorbus. The committee complains that it had "to find a large sum for repairing roads which were chiefly damaged by the motorbus ; it was time that the motorbus companies were compelled to pay a share towards the upkeep of the roads." In connection with the annual fair at Summereourt, the Great Western Railway Company this year maintained an emergency service with four of their Milnes-llaimler motorbuses.

Winter Services.

The discontinuation, by the L.G.0 Co., of some of its outlying servic, during the winter, owing to the reduction in the number of availabl,

• licensed machines, whilst the annual overhaul is in progress, has given rise to much dissatisfaction in the suburbs affected. We have received several communications on the subject.

Char..a.bancs Services.

A public-service char-it-banes has made its appearance in Jersey, and is the first to be used in that, island. It is a " Commer Car " vehicle, and is run by Commercial Car Hirers, Ltd. Another service which is being maintained by this company is that between Buxton and Hulme End, the chassis of this vehicle being one of the standard 3i-ton " Commer Cars." The accompanying illustration shows the type of country in which it is oper ated ; many of the roads have gradients of 1 in 7 or 1 in 8. In referen: to this service, Mr. Samuel Smith, the secretary of the Leek and Manifold Valley Light Railway Co., for which concern Commercial Car Hirers, Ltd., is maintaining the service, states that,

for the 12 weeks since the inauguration of the service, the vehicle has given entire satisfaction, and has run to a fixed time-table without any loss of time whatever. Both the company and its patrons are highly satisfied with the machine.
