Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

As someone very new to the industry (I'm currently doing my Class 2), and coming from a retail background, I'm surprised at how the HGV test is so negative. I've done the test twice and have failed and am currently waiting to doll again.

From the info I have gathered from various areas there is a real shortage of drivers at present and it looks set to continue this way. The test lets you have 15 'minor driving errors", which gives a little scope for signals, mirrors etc.

The "serious and dangerous errors" they class differently; serious being the lesser. Yet you are allowed only one "serious" or one "dangerous" error, even though their seriousness is not the same.

I had one "serious" error on both my tests: one being that I pulled in and banged the nearside mirror sufficiently hard to move it; the other was pulling out of a side road turning left and having to use both lanes to finish my manoeuvre---I just didn't judge the traffic correctly.

I accept my mistakes totally, but if you were allowed two "serious" errors instead of one and taken back to do similar manoeuvres, and the examiner was satisfied that you are competent, where's the harm? if there's no danger to anyone whi fail on just one "serious" error?

It seems to me that the country is crying out for good drivers but there's no help with training. I'm lucky that I can pay for it myself, but I'll bet a lot of guys have failed two or three times and packed it in feeling demoralised and out of pocket NM Maguire,

bye-marl.
