Stand Ql—DAF Trucks (GB) Ltd. THREE vehicle's representing DAF's UK range are on show this year, the DAF FT2800 Supercontinental tractive unit, the DAF 30-tan eight-wheeler and an FT2200 tractive unit.

The Supercontinental for Jverseas operation is based on the top-of-the-range FT2800 tractive unit; its cab has a single bunk, two-ring butane cooker, sink unit, cooled food :storage, and clothes stowage. The 'specification alto includes, a catalytic cab 'heater, roofmounted air-conditioning unit, double-skin tropical roof and coupling light. The chassis spedification includes the 11.6-litre (708cuin) charge cooled turbocharged diesel engine developing 229kW (307bhp) at 2,200rpm and 1,160Nm (8551bft) torque at 1,450rpm (BS AU 141a: net installed). The engine drives through a 420mm (16.5in) diameter single-dry-plate clutch and Fuller RTO 9513 13-speed gearbox to the DAF 13-tonne rear 'axle.

A sump guard, front air line and limited slip differential are fitted.

The eight-wheeler is powered by a turbocharged 8.25-litre (503cuin) diesel engine developing 159kW (216bhp) at 2,400rpm and 716Nm (5281bft) torque at 1,850rpm (BS AU 141a: net installed). A Fuller 13-speed gearbox and 380mm (15in) clutch transmit the drive to the DAF double-drive rear bogie with 'third differential lock. A mandatory option for the eight-wheel tipper is a rear-hinge pin and chassis cross-member assembly fitted during pre-delivery inspection.

A universal fifth-wheel subframe plus lead-on ramps is offered by DAF for its models and an example is shown fitted to the FT2200 'tractive unit, The company also offers wing stays, wings and an alloy catwalk.
