Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ONE of the men who helped set up the State-owned parcel carrying company NCL has been appointed vice-chairman of the British Railways Board.

He is R. L. "Bobby" Lawrence, and he took up his new job as number two to Richard Marsh last week. The appointment is for a term of three years.

Mr Lawrence, who is 60 years old, has been a full-time member of the Board since 1971 and although most of his career has been spent with the railways he has a close association with the road side of the industry.

From January 1967 he was general manager of the then newly formed Freight Sundries Division of BR and at the end of 1968 became a part-time member of the National Freight Corporation. He was also a vice-president of the Institute of Transport.

Still with the State-owned sector the NFC has announced that J. F. Morton has been appointed managing director of NFC International Holdings Ltd. Mr Morton is currently finance director of the company.

Pickfords Removals Ltd has opened a new Enfield branch and the first manager is 21year-old Crawford Hamilton.

The branch will operate independently from the site occupied by the firm's national headquarters at Enfield, and will provide domestic and international removals facilities and container storage.

Mr Hamilton trained in Scotland, mainly at the Greenock office, and for the past 18 months has been area traffic operator for Scotland at the Glasgow area office.

A new face around the City offices of Davison International is that of Peter Burnett, the latest member of Davison's executive team dealing with international road haulage insurance.

Formerly with Wigham Poland Motor Ltd as a director with special responsibility for claims management, he will be assisting in developing the company's commercial insurance activity.

Sir Peter Macready has been appointed managing director of Mobil Oil. He has specific responsibilities for marketing, manufacturing and research and technical services.

Three young managers from Northern Ireland have won the national final of the BIM " Opportunity '75" competition held in London last week.

The winning Michelin team took as their subject the control of electrical usage for a 30-minute presentation. They were presented with a £1,500 prize by Mr C. C. Pocock, managing director of Shell International, who were the sponsors.

On the bus and coach front Jim Martin has been promoted to area sales manager for the Yeates Group in the North West area. Mr Martin was formerly a coach salesman at the Loughborough head office of the company.

London Transport's Consultancy Service, which was started in 1970, is to have a full-time manager for the first time. He is Arthur Knight who, since 1974, has been dividing his time between managing the service and other responsibilities.

The Consultancy Service deals with the many requests for advice from transport bodies in many countries. Staff have advised, on a commercial basis, on methods of operation and development in places as far afield as Helsinki and Bombay.

Mr _Knight has been with London Transport for 35 years and was the chairman's assistant from 1963-66. He has carried out consultancy work in Brisbane, where he evaluated •a new mass transit plan, and has been on a number of assignments to the USA.

On the trade side of the business the Kenning Motor Group has announced that J. B. Thomas, solicitor, has been appointed to its board of directors.

Mr Thomas joined Kennings in 1958.
