FEWER commercial vehicles were made in the five weeks up to September 27 than in the corresponding period last year, according to statistics released by the Department of Industry. Production was 8 per cent down at 33,997 vehicles.
During the period from the beginning of the year, commercial vehicle production was 2 per cent down overall, excluding small vans which are included in the figures for private cars.
Figures released by the Department of the Environment also showed a decline in commercial vehicles registered since the beginning of the year.
In the United Kingdom 690 fewer goods vehicles and 98 fewer public transport vehicles were registered while throughout Great Britain the corresponding figures were 98 and 87 fewer.
